NFL Week 7 Mini-Recap, Week 8 Picks

Standard

Thursday night! Let’s get ready for Thursday Night! Yeah! I’m feeling good right now as you can tell. NBA season starting soon, Red Sox in the World Series (up 1-0 in the series), and I finished 9-6 (yikes) in picks last week. Some interesting games last week, some upsets with the Colts shocking almost everyone in beating the Broncos. Patriots lost on a call that most people didn’t know until now. My pick of the Bills beating the Dolphins made me look good. With that being said I’m definitely feeling good right now. Day off today from work with almost a month away from Black Friday (yep I’m excited).

Will Greg Schiano walk the plank after tonight’s game? Will the Jaguars ever get a win? Will the Raiders or the Steelers win their third game this season and rekindle their 70’s rivalry? Will Tom go on a second date with Zooey Deschanel this week? All these questions and more in this weeks picks!

Carolina @ Tampa Bay: Panthers. This one is pretty easy to decipher, the Panthers are playing good football at this point of the season, while the Buccaneers are a sinking ship. Undefeated streak continues on Thursday nights!

Green Bay @ Minnesota: Packers. Another pretty easy one at this point. The first game with Greg Jennings as a Viking versus his former captain, Aaron Rodgers, I’m sure tempers will flare with this one. Game is on NBC and I’ll still take the Packers.

Dallas @ Detroit: Lions. Despite the loss to the Bengals last week, the Lions seem like a good pick in this one, even though Tony Romo has been playing good football. It could go either way, but I’ll stick with the Detroit Kitties.

San Francisco @ Jacksonville: 49ers. Does anyone feel good about picking the Jaguars in this one? You’re probably nuts in taking the Jags in this one. Niners win it.

Cleveland @ Kansas City: Chiefs. This Chiefs team I haven’t really gotten time to watch them but despite this sad fact, I like their chances to continue to stay unbeaten against a Browns team that had something going for them this season.

Miami @ New England: Patriots. Red Sox playing inspiring well and the Patriots will find themselves taking some of the good vibe from them and win against the Dolphins in this one. Yes the Patriots got hosed, yes it was a good and bad call, and yes I’m sort of a Boston homer, the Packers still own my heart.

Buffalo @ New Orleans: Saints. Buffalo Bills getting a chance to win at the SuperDome which is a very loud building when the Saints are playing good. Bills got no chance. By the way, the second date never happened, Zooey broke my heart, sadly I had to work when New Girl was on TV. I do have to think of something to regain my hold on her.

New York Giants @ Philadelphia: Giants. The G-men finally got their first win on Monday, the Eagles feel like a train wreck at quarterback, and I hope the Gints continue to salvage their season.

New York Jets @ Cincinnati: Bengals. The Bengals got a good win on the road against the Lions and I’m not sure the Jets got the power to beat the Bengirls in the Jungle.

Pittsburgh @ Oakland: Steelers. The Steelers are 2-4 on the season at this point. To beat the Super Bowl champs, which is in turn your rival, at home has to give you something good to think about. Raiders could win, but the talent aspect goes to the Steelers.

Atlanta @ Arizona: Falcons. Oddly enough, Vegas is giving the Cardinals the edge in this one (no pun intended). This game feels queasy to me, the Falcons should be the favorites despite their record but this game reminds me of my alma mater’s cafeteria food (mostly bad).

Washington @ Denver: Broncos. I’m sure you’re asking “Why the Broncos, Tom? You always pick the Broncos even though they lost to the Colts last week.” Sure I do pick the Broncos, maybe I’m playing the safe card but maybe I’m playing the “I’m not an idiot” card.

Seattle @ St. Louis: Seahawks. Well this game might actually be watchable unlike the Giants-Vikings game. Rams look like a dumpster fire now that Sam Bradford is out, the Seabirds drop a deuce on the Rams.

Aside

Hello and good evening to you all. Another post as the week that was for week 7 of the NFL regular season is finished. Yes I did have a better week in picking games this week than last week (4-10 for those who are new to my column blog, welcome by the way!). 11-2 in 13 games for week 7. 6 teams had a bye week. In terms it was a pretty good week for me. So here we go:

Seattle 6, San Francisco 13: Had the Niners winning. The game was a close, defensive contest for the most part. The Niners got a safety but Jim Harbaugh decided to keep it a 7 point game to keep the spread at 7. Good move I suppose. Alex Smith might not be the QB that can get the job done right in the Bay City but he’s better than anyone else there.

Tennessee 35, Buffalo 34: Had the Bills winning. Somehow or another this pick sounded logical towards the end of the game. The Bills had a 6-point lead then the Bills fail and score on a late touchdown pass from Matt Hasselbeck (Yes he’s still in the league, I’m sure you’re shocked too… right?). Very good scoring contest.

Dallas 19, Carolina 14: Had Dallas winning. The Cowboys had an alright game. Tony Romo played well enough to get a win. Big story for this game was Cam Newton getting criticism by a lot of people. My take is that his team has a lot of running backs USE THEM! Take the pressure off Cam Newton, he isn’t Superman. The Panthers pride themselves on their running game. Its like that scene in Scary Movie 4 when Charlie Sheen’s character eats too many Viagra pills thus causing his penis to grow the size of a whale’s penis, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT MOMENT TO PLEASE EVERY WOMAN YOU SEE! Okay maybe that wasn’t a good example but you should get that pop culture reference.

Baltimore 13, Houston 43: Had Texans winning. The game was awful to watch if you were a Ravens fan. It was sad to see no Ray Lewis on the field. I mean Terrell Suggs was in the game but it was the Texans game to lose and they showed up to play after a bad performance against the Packers.

Cleveland 13, Indianapolis 17: Had Indy winning. The Colts had an alright game, Weeden had a good game with 2 touchdown passes and 0 interceptions (yep you heard it here 0 int’s!). Andrew Luck ran in for 2 scores. Maybe he could be a runner as well as a passer.

Arizona 14, Minnesota 21: Had the Vikings winning. A pretty tight game. If you had Adrian Peterson on your fantasy team he had a great day. 153 rushing yards for a 1 touchdown. Skelton got roughed up quite a bit didn’t he…

Washington 23, New York Giants 27: had the G-men winning. A lot of people had the Redskins winning in this one based on the fact that the Redskins owned the season series last season. The Giants had Victor Cruz to a winning score in the 4th quarter. Did the salsa dance… should be on Dancing With The Stars when his career is over! He’d take down Emmitt Smith and Donald Driver by a landslide.

Green Bay 30, St. Louis 20: Had the Packers winning. The Packers had a solid game for them going on in their 3rd straight road game. The game was a great one for Aaron Rodgers who looked to be back on track to the Aaron Rodgers we should know. St. Louis is still a good team but they’re a long ways from getting back to a playoff team.

New Orleans 35, Tampa Bay 28: Had New Orleans winning. The Saints only won this game because of Drew Brees. Their defense has to be one of the worst in the league. I mean its awful, awful, awful. Okay I’m done.

New York Jets 26, New England 29 (OT): Had New England winning. The game was supposed to be in favor of the Patriots by 10 1/2 points. The Patriots problems are starting to surface and it can’t be all Tom Brady’s fault. The defense should be better than this. I mean the Patriots, like the Packers spent a lot of draft picks on defense to repair the defense but somehow the Pats win this one close.

Jacksonville 23, Oakland 26 (OT): Had the Jaguars winning. The Jaguars pick seemed to me like a good idea. But only to realize that the Jaguars are crap without Blaine Gabbert at the helm. The Jaguars blew a 17-6 lead after halftime. Gabbert left the game. Have to give the Raiders a lot of credit.

Pittsburgh 24, Cincinnati 17: Had Pittsburgh winning. The Steelers proved that they can still win close games and Big Ben proved in this game if you heard about his pep talk to his offense to step up while their banged up defense some help with some rest.

Detroit 7, Chicago 13: Had the Bears winning. A lot of talk has been on the Vikings so far this season and probably the Bears are the most complete team in the NFC if not the NFL at this point. However the Packers did beat them so I can’t give them all the credit *wink wink*
